O Green Bay Packers e o Philadelphia Eagles foram selecionados para protagonizar o primeiro jogo da NFL no Brasil, em uma iniciativa da liga em parceria com a prefeitura de São Paulo, anunciada nesta quarta-feira. Com investimento de US$ 5 milhões em infraestrutura pela prefeitura, a expectativa é gerar 5.000 empregos e movimentar cerca de US$ 60 milhões. O evento será transmitido pela TV aberta em todo território dos Estados Unidos e para mais de cem países. Estima-se a presença de pelo menos 10 mil norte-americanos no estádio, tornando o evento um grande atrativo turístico.
A escolha de São Paulo como sede do evento foi tema de negociações que levaram o prefeito a Dallas para fechar o acordo durante o encontro anual dos donos dos times da NFL. O estádio do Corinthians foi considerado ideal devido às suas dimensões e estrutura, passando por vistorias que avaliaram questões de mobilidade, hospitalidade e segurança.
Com aproximadamente 38,3 milhões de fãs de futebol americano no Brasil, o país se destaca como um dos principais mercados da modalidade, atrás apenas do México e dos Estados Unidos. A escolha de trazer o evento para São Paulo foi preferida em comparação com cidades como Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona e Madri.
